Busted.....again.....bah.

You don't expect to step in a puddle of cat pee. It's unpleasant.

I feel like I've written this story before. Shane's supposed to have been taking car of the cat pots. He's told Carrie every day that he's done his job, but then there's an accident. It was Friday, so I was home for virtual office hours rather than rushing to work. That meant there was time for a reckoning.

It took me two seconds to figure out what happened. I smelled pee (after cleaning up what I stepped in), so I checked the pee pad. Unlike Shane, I pulled the tray out far enough to realize the pad was soaked through even if the corner closest to me didn't look like it.

My next step was to check ALL of the litter pots. From the amount scooped out of  Aria's pot it was clear Shane wasn't doing as good of a job as advertised.

I was pissed. Carrie was more so. Shane tried to minimize and duck blame, but the evidence heaped up before him.

I don't remember exactly what was said, but Shane did something new, something that I could respect: Without being told, he went to work to show he was sorry.

I saw Shane go down to the barn while the house was too hot for him to handle. Carrie didn't want him unsupervised, but I decided to wait. After a few minutes, Shane came out and started collecting food buckets. That's the first thing I have him do each morning when we do chores together. I was impressed. "Showing you're sorry," rather than only giving lip service may have been something I've mentioned many a time to no avail....until now.

I liked what I was seeing, so I waited a little longer and watched from the house. When I thought enough time had passed, I went down before Shane could start anything too involved. We worked through chores and processed through what happened off and on as we worked. He went without electronics for the day, but I made sure to compliment him on taking action.

I'm not happy that I had to clean up more cat pee, but I am happy Shane had a chance to show some maturity in the aftermath. I pray it continues.....the maturity. Not the cat pee.
