We visited Grandma for Mother's Day this year! She is still recovering from her knee replacement, but doing well.
And Gardener Granny had a request: She wanted to "put me to work." There was a tree that needed moving.
Grandpa had already trenched his way around the tree by the time we arrived. I helped with the last little bit and pulled it up. The root system was far shallower than anticipated. What I thought would be at least an hour long project turned into a less than twenty minute one.
Shane brought out newspaper to help wrap the roots and keep the tree hydrated, but got distracted reading the comics soon after (I'm glad he's reading!).
Meanwhile, Carrie and Grandma were at work on the inside looking up Triple R Camp. We'd wanted to send Shane with Sofia last year, but Sofia backed out, a pandemic hit, and the idea flew out the window.
This year, Carrie and I decided to try again. Shane's such a raging extrovert, we think camp would be fun and experience building for him (The fact it's a Christian camp further enhances my opinion on the matter!).
Shane says he's reluctant, but Carrie showed him and Grandpa some videos to hype it up. She signed him up for the equestrian package, because she wants him to know how to ride (living at a stable and all). I talked up the swimming pool and zip line, because that's what I'd have wanted to do at his age.
Triple R Camp is something of a tradition on Carrie's side of things, so Grandma loved the idea of Shane going. She loved it (and him) so much that she offered to pay! (Usually, mothers get gifts on Mother's Day instead of giving them!).
Everyone shared a lunch of salmon, asparagus spears, and potatoes.
Shane was "full," but he rallied to the cause when Grandpa mentioned mint-chocolate chip ice cream.
And Shane rallied yet again when Grandpa asked, "Do you want to go fishing?"
The tradition continues! Grandpa had already renewed his license.
Unfortunately, the reel broke after a few casts! No one knew how to fix it, so we had to wrap up much sooner than expected.
We returned home to find the ladies watching the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok. Grandma and Grandpa have been following Carrie's list of which order to watch all the MCU movies in.
We didn't stay much longer than that. Loki surely missed us! We said our goodbyes and hopped back in the car.
This post was mostly about our visit to Grandma, but the other mothers weren't forgotten! Nana got a call early in the morning and Carrie wanted smoothies on our drive home. Shane and I had the benefit of being in the car, so we got smoothies, too!
