Belvitas are the preferred breakfast. The pouch and granola bar are snacks that I find the wrappers for all around the house (though some of the granola bars are on Carrie!).
Another third has to be peanut-butter and Nutella sandwiches.
He'd prefer straight Nutella, but I require the PB for some protein. It's an easy sandwich for him to make when I say, "Make your own lunch."
Throw in cups of water and you know Shane's food schedule at least 80% of the time.
For breakfast, Shane will sometimes substitute waffles, a bagel, oatmeal or cereal for the Belvitas (usually when we run out!). Pop Tarts would be the breakfast of choice, but we don't keep those in stock anymore (He still gets them at Nana and Pop's!).
For lunch, we occasionally have leftovers available. As long as someone else heats it up, Shane's game. He used to heat up chicken nuggets, but he's cooled to the point I no longer buy them.
Dinner is when there's real variety in what Shane eats. If Carrie cooks curry, Shane will eat curry. If Carrie makes beef stew, Shane will eat beef stew.
Bottom line: If Carrie cooks it, Shane eats it.
Does he always love what she cooks? No. He can be a complainer. Especially if there's even a hint of "spicy."
But he always tastes it. Most of the time, he finds it's much better than he tried to convince himself otherwise.
Shane almost never complains about what I 'cook,' because it mostly comes straight from a book. Taquitos? Costco. Frozen pizza? Costco! Potstickers and rice? Costco and Costco again! Salmon and cream cheese may be one of the most intricate things I prepare (or maybe mac and cheese?).
If it weren't for the variety at dinner, I'd feel like Carrie and I were total slackers on the dietary front. As is, he's far less picky of an eater than I was at his age.
