The Old School

I got nostalgic while on errands. "Where are we going?" Shane asked.

He recognized it when we got there: My old school.

I haven't been back to LMA since I left. I thought about visiting my first year out, but there was never time. I sent some emails, but otherwise I was totally engrossed in being the best teacher I could be at my new position.

COVID hit and then it was a long time before I went back to my current school much less my former!

But I have missed it.

It looked mostly the same. There were new benches and tables outside. I could see some new tables in the cafeteria/gym, but the artwork on the walls were the same.

I knocked and a new face opened the door. Connie had retired. Jill was out, but I let Shane play Pokemon go and I chatted up Connie's replacement. We laughed and traded stories about Brown and Ahmad picking at each other, Losch was still there, and Max's classroom had gotten fancy new desks with whiteboards built in. Almost everyone else had moved on. The pandemic and virtual school in particular was extra difficult for LMA's population.

I feel like I followed God's lead moving on, but who knows? Maybe one day he'll call me back. I felt called to serve there and I'm glad I did. It got me ready for my current job and I used a lot of the same programs I figured out at LMA for when I was forced to switch to virtual at MoHS.

It wasn't a long stop, but it did me good. Shane caught a few Pokemon and Carrie had time to text me a list before we hit up Wegman's on the way home.
